RUBY
SUE

by Carl A. Patton Atlanta, GA
I
remember Ruby
she
held me
as
a child.
She
taught me
things
that mother’s
do
share.
Gifted
in memory.
The
family oral
Historian,
the storyteller.
She
told stories
of
life. Experiences
in
Black, White and red.
I
remember Ruby
talking
of Alabama
and
Mama Kitty.
Ruby
Sue knew
of
country times the
days
of survival and strength
This
was the time
They
danced the
Trigger
toe.
The
blues was
king
and so
was
homebrew.
There
were also
corn
whiskey dreams,
and
cutting knives.
I
remember Ruby.
I
could once
call
her at night.
Now
there are
only
memories. I
write
this night.
I
remember Ruby
Sue,
I love
you
mother dear.
