Part 3:
Question Masturbation
Okay, what Onan did was wrong because he was
given an order which he did not complete. You said that if he had completed
intercourse but still prevented conception he would have still been punished. But
God knows what He's doing. The children that Tamar eventually had by Judah (by
trickery no less, which she didn't get punished for) played a role in Jesus'
lineage. I think it was more about preservation of the line that Jesus was
supposed to come out of. Do you think she was really supposed to have children
by Onan, or was Onan just there to teach us all a lesson about disobedience?
Carl:
I agree that Onan was a means to teach us a lesson regarding disobedience.
I don't think I would equate onanism with masturbation just because sperm is
spilled, because women masturbate too, but there's no loss of eggs...? I'm
gonna stick with the "sex with yourself" theory because that covers
both men and women.
Carl:
Yes men and women masturbate. Therefore masturbation does not solely relate to
men. So sex with self is appropriate.
Thus masturbation does not always mean that sperm is spilled. Often
masturbation does not lead to ejaculation by a man or woman.
So God said be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth...I
think we've done a pretty good job of filling up the earth already. Don't get
me wrong, I have a problem when I hear people, especially Christian people,
saying that they're not going to have children, just because they don't want
any.
Carl:
I agree it is wrong for Christians to deny reproduction if they are able and of
course married.
The more Christian babies we have, the better.
But if you can't support all those children, whether it's emotionally,
physically, financially...should you really just keep going, and going, and
going, until the expiry date on your ovaries?
Carl:
No one should have children that they cannot care for in all of the areas you
have noted. The number of children can be regulated without wasting sperm. One
clear way is to abstain from sex unless you are able in the ways noted to care
for a child.
P.S., it's Sis. Jemila, I'm a dudette, not a dude ![]()
Carl: My Beloved
Sister Jemila I am very sorry for the error in gender distinction. Please
pardon my mistake.
