JESUS THE SON OF GOD
My Beloved Sorforth,
Peace be unto you. We are
so grateful for the powerful scriptures you have noted below. We thank God for
your interest in this subject. Therefore in response to your concerns we will note
several other scriptures that are cross-references and of course bring more
clarity to the actual meaning of the Word at this place. As you follow us you
will clearly see in the Word that Jesus is truly the Son of God and not God.
John 10:32 Jesus answered
them, Many good works have I shewed you from My Father; for which of those
works do ye stone Me?
FreedomJournal: It was the
good works of Jesus that greatly angered the Jews. They were jealous of the mass following that
was evolving around His ministry.
John 10:33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee
not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
FreedomJournal: They
claimed that Jesus made himself God. However Jesus did not make such a claim.
He could have but He only claimed to be the Son of God. (Also see Leviticus 24:
15-16; John 1: 1, 18, 5: 18, 20: 28; Romans 9: 5; Philippians 2: 6; Titus 2:
13; Hebrews 1: 8, 9; II Peter 1: 1 and I John 5: 20).
John 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
FreedomJournal: Jesus refers to Psalms 82: 6 as he
makes a reply to the charge of the Jews.
Therefore we suggest and advise for your mediation and study to read and
study all of the verse found there especially verses one and six. Now the
phrase “ye are gods” was addressed to the Jews of old to whom the law was sent.
In this form of speech they were called gods. Notice the lower case here.
Attributing this title to God’s people is not unusual. The name of God is a
family one and includes every member of that family. Every member of the Patton
family is a Patton. Therefore every member of the family of God is a God in the
sense of relationship. It was in that sense the passage in Psalms was used. Not
that anyone was equal to God the Father.
John 10:35 If He called them gods, unto
whom the Word of God came, and the Scripture cannot be broken;
FreedomJournal: They were
the ones the word of God was sent; this entitled them to the family
relationship and the right to its name, which was God. See the phrase “the scripture cannot be
broken “ this means that these Jew had no right to speak of Jesus in a way that
would criticize the scripture just quoted. Therefore they had no right to call
Jesus God and say that Jesus tried to make himself God.
John 10:36 Say ye of Him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into
the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
FreedomJournal: The word
sanctified has varied meanings in the New Testament. It sometimes pertains to
man and sometimes to the Lord. Here it is in reference to Jesus as He was
worthy for high regard and He came to separate from things profane and dedicate
to God. Jesus never had any impurities in his character. The Father
acknowledged the Son and He is worthy of high regard. If the people who were honored only by having
the law sent to them were entitled to be called gods, then certainly the One on
who God bestowed all these later honors on has the right to be called Son of
God.
John 10:37 If I do not the
works of My Father, believe Me not.
Jesus rested his
reputation on the works He did. The Jews would not have been able to note a
single thing that Jesus did that God condemned in the scriptures. Take that
point to heart. Those that follow the Divine inspiration will never note
anything that God has condemned in scripture. However all in the flesh have
on-going growth as long as we look first to God and not man and human
understanding.
John 10:38 But if I do, though ye believe not Me, believe the works: that
ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in Him.
Now to Psalms 82: 6:
“I have said, ye are gods; and al of you are children of the most High.
This Psalms is cited
by Jesus in John 10: 34 the phrase “ye are gods.” David refers to the family
name God. Therefore each Jew was a god in that sense. God is the family name of
the Trinity. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. This is why Jesus is called God in Acts 20:
28.
Acts 20: 28: Take
heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy
Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath
purchased with his own blood.”
Many people pervert this
scripture to mean a certain name for the Church. However The Church is Christ.
Meanwhile for our discussion we note that God is the family name of the Deity,
of which Christ is a member, making that word his own name as well as that of
his Father. Therefore the Church of God
is equivalent to the Church of Christ.
So in conclusion as
we have note at the outset of this extended discussion that Jesus is the Son of
God. Although God could allow a Son to also be His Father this is not the case.
There is Father God and a Son of God Christ Jesus. Brethren the scriptures bear
out the Divine calling and will of Christ Jesus however He was sent by the
Father.
Peace and Paradise,
Carl A. Patton writing for the FreedomJournal 13 June 2007 in the year of our
Lord and Savior Christ Jesus the Son of God.
