Greetings Brethren:

Do the people of the earth want to be healed? Yes and No. Again we bear witness that the greatest healing comes from the Spiritual healing of the righteous who love God, self and the people God created.

Meanwhile the lost and the confused believe that man has power to heal and do miraculous things. However there is exceeding Joy among the believers who know that the Father of us all brings the supernatural and the miraculous and not man in the flesh. God also starts your car and wakes you in the morning.

Peace and Love,

Carl Patton writing for the FreedomJournal January 25, 2002 in the year of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

CHRISTIANITY: False Teaching, False Doctrines

The Miracle of Healing

Part 89: Do You Want To Be Healed? (John 5:6).

In the Name of Jehovah God, Master of the Universe, Ruler of the Earth.

Throughout Galilee Jesus carried the Good News to the people. His ministry was especially noted in Capernaum. In Chapter 4; John records that Jesus had been calling certain men to follow him. But it was not until his trip to Jerusalem noted in Chapter 5:1; that he chose his twelve Disciples from among them.

Jesus went to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. This festival was most likely the Passover. In the city near the sheep market there was a pool, alongside this pool were many people with various ailments and afflictions.

The water at the pool was thought to be holy and given healing power from the touch of angels. However, much of this passage is omitted from some translations. This omission is noted because some early Greek manuscripts do not contain it. Various kinds of miracles were performed during ancient times; surely this miracle is not out of line with God and His miraculous power.

Whether this miracle occurred or is a result of tradition is immaterial in regard to the work of Jesus. Meanwhile, the writer does not show that Jesus referred to the question of the agitation of the water in the pool. The man's case was chronic, because he had been afflicted for 38 years.

John 5:6. "When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?"

Jesus as the Son of God was well aware of this man and his chronic ailment. However, he approached the man in sympathy and wished him well. The man had suffered throughout his life and had no hope to be healed. With no help from anyone his desire to help himself had passed. No matter how hopeless a situation God is able. God may have a special task for you despite your ailment or because of it.

John 5:7. "The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool; but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me."

John 5:8. "Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk."

Impotent in this passage means weak or feeble. The lame man had confidence in the curative powers of the water, whatever this belief was based on. He also told Jesus why he had to lie there, but he did not get any relief from his illness.

When Jesus told him to rise up and walk he did not refer to the pool. But told him not only to rise up and walk, but carry his bed as he walked.

John 5:9. "And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked; and on the same day was the Sabbath."

The recovery of the lame man was immediate and complete. This miracle was clearly seen in the man not only walking, but carrying a bed that was large enough to support a man. His recovery was complete because this was the will of Jesus the healer. For example in Chapter 4, Jesus started the nobleman's son on the road to recovery by causing his temperature to return to normal. However, this miracle was also immediate and happened in the same hour that Jesus spoke the word.

This story is told in the 5th Chapter of John verses 1-15. We will now view the final two verses.

John 5:14. "Afterward, Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole; sin no more, lest a worst thing come unto thee."

John 5:15. "The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole."

The 14th verse in this Chapter is often misunderstood. We believe that the best way to understand any scripture is to take note of the actual passage (words, phrases) and not some pre-conceived notion. For example this verse does not say anything about forgiveness for sin. However, to be made whole in a Physical sense also has a Spiritual awakening.

Thus, "sin no more," but we are not told of the sin committed by the lame man, but that God cured his physical condition. During the days of miracles God did at times send physical Judgments upon people. There are also sins of a normal nature that can result in serious health problems. But in this case, if the man was ungrateful as to sin again, the Lord would not wait on nature to afflict a penalty. He would send one himself that would be worse than the previous ailment.

Remember that this law was during the days of miracles and the Old Law. Ill health does not come from punishment for sins. However, the sin of drinking alcohol to the point of becoming addicted can cause various health problems.
