WHY DID THE GREAT COMMISSION END? DID THE SPIRITUAL GIFTS OF THE MIRACULOUS END ALSO?

Part 11: The New Testament And The Spirit

Greetings Brethren,

Peace be unto you. Did the Prophets have the same Spirit as the Apostles? If not how can we distinguish between the Old and New Spirit? Did the Spirit of miracles exist during days of Old? So it is seen if you look, listen, watch and pray.

Peace and Love, Carl Patton a willing slave of Almighty God writing for the FreedomJournal 2 March 2006 in the year of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.

Beloved in the New Testament the Holy Spirit, the experience of the powerful presence of God among His people is widely related in continuity with the Old Testament. Also in the Gospels just like the Old Testament the Holy Spirit comes upon certain persons for certain reasons.

In Mark the Spirit is stressed at significant moments:

Mark 1:8 Jesus’ future baptizing in the Spirit.

Mark 1:10 Jesus’ own baptism

Mark 3:11, 5:12, 6:7, 7:25, 9:25 His constant conflict with unclean Spirits.

Mark 3:29 The accusation of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

We also beg to make an analysis of the power of the Spirit. Are there any parallels in the birth of Jesus and John the Baptist? Matthew in contrast to John the Baptist describes the virginal conception of Jesus through the creative activity of the Holy Spirit.

Meanwhile the inspired writer Luke reveals that the Church has a mission. At the heart of this movement is the ‘Spirit for it will allow the increase of the Word.

The Holy Spirit begins each part of Luke’s Gospels. When Jesus is conceived by the Holy Spirit, Mary, Elizabeth, Zechariah, John and Simeon are each filled with the prophetic Holy Spirit.

The Spirit descends in bodily form at Jesus’ baptism and led him in and out of the desert. Luke cites Isaiah 61:2, 58: 6 to describe Jesus’ manifesto of “good new to the poor” at Nazareth.

The Spirit plays such a prominent role in Acts that it could well be entitled the Acts of the Holy Spirit. There is a clear parallel between the beginning of the Gospel and that of Acts.

Jesus bestowed His Spirit at Pentecost; the birth of the Christian community, the out pouring of the Spirit is recorded at Acts 2: 1-4, 4: 28-31, 8: 15-17, 10:44 and 19:6.
